Places of worship
Following the Napoleonic and post-unification suppressions., between the late eighteenth and late nineteenth centuries, the Municipality of Ferrara acquired or became the owner of several buildings and worship complexes located in the city and its immediate surroundings.
HISTORY
While some were put to uses other than their original ones, many were soon returned to their religious functions while remaining part of the city’s civic heritage.
This is how the Municipality of Ferrara still owns churches and monasteries today, providing for the maintenance and enhancement of the historical and artistic heritage. Instead, the cultic management of the spaces is entrusted, through specific agreements and conventions, to the Archdiocese of Ferrara-Comacchio or the various religious orders. Sacred works and furnishings, acquired by the municipality along with the properties, are left in their respective places while preserving their function.
