De Pisis. The poetry of the moment

December 22, 2018-June 2, 2019

De Pisis. The poetry of the moment returns to the public a wide selection of works by the Ferrara artist from the collections of the museum named after him, now closed for restoration.
Paintings, lithographs and drawings, presented in a dense and fascinating itinerary, reveal an artistic story inextricably linked to the places where De Pisis lived: from the Roman period to his final move to Paris in 1925, when silent objects took shape on his canvases, recalling the lyrical and metaphysical suggestions of his youthful years and his rethought relationship with his hometown from a distance; from reaching full artistic maturity in the original en plein air revisitations or still lifes of touching melancholy, to the twilight spent in the Villa Fiorita clinic, the last painful but still deeply creative chapter.
Accompanying the paintings and works on paper will also be letters, postcards and autograph texts from the Raimondi Archive of the University of Bologna, which testify to De Pisis’ bond with his fraternal friend, the Bolognese writer and critic, Giuseppe Raimondi. Also through their epistolary relationship, it is possible to better understand the Ferrara artist’s sensibility and how his erudition-rich imagination uniquely tells the soul of things.
